E.B. White

“Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder” – E.B. White

One of my favorite books as a child was Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and now I’m proud to say that it is a favorite of my children’s too. It was a memorable moment for me when my eldest realized that it was actually both an uplifting story of sticking up for the little guy, as both Fern and Charlotte do for Wilbur, but also sad as he has to leave Fern and eventually Charlotte has to leave him. No one wanted Charlotte’s fate but a story of true friendship and doing what you can for others that cannot.

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you

– Tom Petty

Earth day is April 22nd

“And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.” – William Shakespeare

Sometimes I try to place myself in the position my one-year-old is in and absorb the sounds, sights and sensations she is experiencing for her first time. The lush, green grass with tiny purple crocuses sprouting this way and that, tall, looming trees with hints of young leaves and the promise of shade against the backdrop of a deep blue sky flickered with white, fluffy clouds and the powering brightness of the magnificent sun. Even the cloudy, gray afternoon spitting little droplets of wet diamonds makes my daughter smile and look up to the heavens. So much to learn from this little girl and so much to appreciate in the nature around us.

warm weather has finally arrived

“And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth’s dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.”
~Percy Bysshe Shelley, “The Sensitive Plant”
