burpmaterials

With the coming arrival of baby numero 2, I decided that I wasn’t busy enough and decided to make some burp cloths. Lovebug had plain white burp cloths that she now takes everywhere with her and sleeps with. Rather than use the same cloths for her sibling, I decided to dress some up to make them different. Now our daughter won’t have to worry herself with her baby brother or sister stealing her cloths!

I had seen some fancied up burp cloths in stores and rather than paying for them, I challenged myself to just sew my own. They were SO easy!

Materials:

Plain 3-ply cloth diapers

Fabric

White thread

Scissors

Iron

Pins

Sewing machine

Instructions:

1. Wash and dry both the diaper cloths and fabric to allow for shrinkage. Iron fabric. Cut fabric so that the pieces are two inches longer than the diaper cloth and two inches wider than the center fold.

2. Fold under and iron down the short sides of the fabric so that they’re about 1/4″ smaller than the diaper. Repeat for the long sides to fit within the center fold.

3. Pin down along all sides.

4. Now sew away! I used white thread and chose a tiny zig-zag  for along my borders.

Finito!!

They were a ton of fun to do and very simple! I am so happy with how they turned out and made several of them to just grab and toss whenever I need. Naturally, the more I did, the neater they came out. You know what they say – practice makes…well, not perfect in this case, but close enough!

Now that the weather has finally gotten warmer we have taken advantage of our grill and bbqing a lot more.  In my opinion, no BBQ is complete without some deviled eggs! Super easy to make and very good to eat – perfect recipe for a side dish to any BBQ meal!

Ingredients:

eggs

mayonnase

mustard

paprika

Directions:

1. Start off by placing eggs in a pan of cold water and allowing to boil for about 25 minutes. Drain eggs from hot water and cool.

2. Once eggs have cooled, peel and slice in half placing the yolk in a small bowl.

3. Add mustard and mayo to yolks in the bowl and mash together. Taste testing is necessary to make sure you have your desired amount of mustard to mayo. ;-)

4. Scoop mustard mixture with spoon into the center of the egg. Sprinkle with paprika and ENJOY!

Sewing a valance can be super simple.

What you need:

- sewing machine
- fabric
- coordinating thread

What to do:

1. Wash and iron fabric.
2. Measure window and cut fabric. Our window is 6 feet across so I measured for 7.5 feet to allow for hemming and slight shirring.
3. Hem all sides of the fabric.
4. Pin down fabric along the top to measure for curtain rod hole. Pinning down every few inches helps to make it easier to sew in a straight line.
5. Sew along the pins, trim any loose thread and FINITO! You have your simple valance.

Green Green Grass Of Home by Tom Jones

“The old home town looks the same as I step down from the train,
and there to meet me is my Mama and Papa.
Down the road I look and there runs Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they’ll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.
The old house is still standing tho’ the paint is cracked and dry,
and there’s that old oak tree I used to play on.

Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary, hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they’ll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.”
