We took lovebug to the Philadelphia Zoo this morning and we had such a great time! I have always enjoyed going to the zoo and couldn’t wait to become a mother to take my children one day and hope that they enjoy it as much as I did. She had a great time and loved watching the animals, taking in all the sounds and seeing the thousands of other families swarming the area. Here are just a few pictures from our morning…
We could barely contain our excitement when we awoke on our second day at the beach in Alba Adriatica to find the sun was shining and the skies were a gorgeous blue. We headed out early for a walk along the beach and to soak up some rays before the beaches became too crowded.
This is a shot at the beach in Alba Adriatica during our last week in Italy this past summer. It rained horribly the night before and we woke up to a deserted beachtown, which was actually kind of cool. I just thought this was a nice picture, a memory of our rainy morning at the beach but we still managed to have a ton of fun. And I loved the colors of the umbrellas – I literally could not stop snapping pictures of them!
Since I have become a mother, I have learned to really love and appreciate all the different smiles that come our way. Our little lovebug has her coy little smile when she *thinks* she’s getting away with something, her smile reserved for when she sees her daddy at the end of a work day, the big and somewhat toothy grin when she is playing with her toys amongst many, many others.
This smile above is one of the best – when you know she’s at a really happy place and giddy with joy. I will do just about anything to keep that look on her face and forever in my heart.
On our drive back from Castelli, I feel as if we stopped hundreds of times to take in the scenery and the beautiful Italian countryside. I always feel like my pictures never really do the scenery justice as it’s almost too overwhelming for any lens to really capture. But, that’s not going to stop me from taking pictures!
When in Abruzzo, you must visit the little mountain town of Castelli. Home to the most incredible pieces of ceramic in the region with each piece different in texture, style and color from the next. Always a stop for us when in Abruzzo, the town is the perfect size for taking a stroll throughout and breathing in the fresh mountain air. Quaint little cafes and restaurants dot the main street, while homes line the rest of the town’s narrow streets each boasting a unique piece of art particular to the town.
Pieces from our own collection in our home
We are back from a weekend with my family and we had the best time. It was a bit of a birthday celebration as both my youngest brother and mom had their birthdays this past week. I still can not believe that my youngest brother turned 13 and is officially a teenager! Where did the time go? I remember September 30, 1995 when my dad called from the hospital to tell us that my mom had gone into delivery and we welcomed a new baby boy into the family. I was a senior in high school at the time. It’s been a pretty incredible experience having a brother 17 years younger than myself and create a whole new dynamic for our family. Happy Birthday Antonio!

We have begun many traditions in our travels to Italy each year and every one of them is just as special as the next. One incredible visit we make each time is to the Sanctuary of San Gabriele in Abruzzo. San Gabriele is not only the Patron saint of Abruzzo, but also the saint to children which also makes our trips important for Sofia.
